Thank you for visiting, reading and trying Yoople!. Every different day we have new ideas about "Search the Web" and this site is the result of these ideas.
We hope you appreciate our efforts to create a new way to live the "Web Searching Experience".
"...results given by basic and advanced search engines are nice and useful, but still made by machines, not humans..."
At Yoople! Project we believe that Web Searches are quite good, but not as smart as a human brain could do. As today we are forced
to accept the order given by search engines and click the results as they are, unfortunately this does not mean the human searcher agrees with
the returned results index. Moreover clicking a result does not mean the website contains the contents we were looking for.
Starting from these thoughts we have started to think about a new way to interact with web searches and a new project, codename Yoople!,
has born with the aim to give a human touch to the typical user experience with search engine indexing.
Well first of all, try it! Try because it's much more exciting to play with it than going on reading!
Uh!Still here? So let's rock on! Yoople! gives the people the chance to drag search results from their positions and drop in other positions and define their own order, as shown in the pictures below.

Example - Moving result from second position to first position:
1. Pick and Drag 2nd result
2. Move it toward 1st position
3. Move it upon 1st position
4. Drop there!
Shifting results will increase or decrease their "Yoople! factor" in such a way that further searches for the given term will show results in Yahoo! Web Search order improved by their Yoople!'s shifting factors.
On the right side of every result you can see how many times it has been shifted. The color of the boxes is based on the comparison between the positions of the given results in Yoople! and Yahoo!:
Rolling over a shift box you can read several informations about the result: the position in Yoople! (or Your Yoople! Position, just after your changes to the order), the original position in Yahoo!, the Yoople! Factor and how many times it has been shifted.
Your changes will affect the main order and everybody will see what you did and collaborate with you towards the final goal: create smart results!
1. It's a project about Web Search Technologies in its early beta stage, we are applying new ideas to the way
we are used to interact with major search engines.
2. It's "giving the power back to the people"
3. That's one small step for [a] site, one giant leap for the web (uhm...)
4. It's based on Yahoo! Web Search Web Services
5. It could be based on others services from different providers (we are working on Google as well)
1. It's not a crawler or spider
2. It's not a substitute for search engines
2. It's not a yoghurt!
Yoople! is a Web 2.0 Application built on Prototype and Script.aculo.us and based on Yahoo! Web Search API.
Since Yoople! is an experimental project on search engines improvements and not on developing a new search engine (at least till now...), in order to fullfil this aim we decided to use Web Services by Yahoo!.
Yahoo! Web Search Web Services are limited to 5,000 queries per IP per day per API, so you could experience some problems when trying Yoople! after lot of searches.
Not having access to Yahoo! Web Search database we don't know how results are stored, so we create a local database where all of the shifting factors are temporary stored.
This could lead to latencies when lot of records are stored in our database, unfortunately we can't forsee what is going to happen after many visitors have used Yoople!.
Thank you for visiting and trying Yoople!, stay tuned because more has to come!
Any feedback or help (especially on our poor english) are welcome!
Best regards,
Carlo Zapponi
